Glen Campbell Honored with ACM Career Achievement Award
Glen Campbell who has had recorded countless country albums and a few Christian projects will be honored at this year's ACM Awards. The show will air on Sunday (April 3) where Campbell will be acknowledged as a recipient of the Career Achievement Award.
According to the Academy of Country Music, the Career Achievement Award honors artists who have "advanced the popularity and acceptance of country music through their endeavors in the entertainment industry in multiple areas during the preceding calendar year."
In June 2011, Campbell announced he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease six months earlier. According to his family, symptoms of the disease had been occurring for years, becoming more and more evident as the years progressed.
In April 2014, news reports indicated that Campbell had become a patient at an Alzheimer's long-term care and treatment facility. On March 10, 2015, NBC News reported that Campbell could no longer speak for himself and that two of his children, Debby and Travis, had sought legal action against Campbell's wife Kim, with the assertion that she had "secluded" the singer and prevented them from "participating" in Campbell's medical care
Campbell's wife recently revealed that the country legend has lost his ability to speak. "He's healthy, he's content," she shares with WTSP news in Tampa Bay, Fla. "He's lost most of his ability to communicate verbally. He has severe aphasia, but he still understands the universal language of smiles and kisses, and he enjoys food."
She adds: "We just trust that God has a purpose for everything that we face in our lives, and we just love each other through whatever we're going through. Alzheimer's is a disease that affects the whole family."
