Keith Urban Announces ‘Ripcord’ Release Date

Country music Australian superstar Keith Urban has announced the release date for his upcoming studio album, Ripcord. His eighth studio album will be released on May 6, 2016,.
"Ripcord is almost done - and it's been an exhilarating journey," Urban says in a press release. "Getting to work with so many new musicians and writers and co-producers has been a divine experience for me - and I can't wait for everyone to hear it!"
"I've been in the studio this weekend feverously trying to get my record done and we couldn't be in two places at once, unfortunately," he said, adding that he's hopeful he and his wife, Nicole Kidman, will be able to attend the ACM Awards together on April 3, where he is set to perform."Yes, we're still working on that," he shares. "Hopefully. She's got a couple of projects going on right now. One of them might clash. We're working hard to have us both be able to go."
The album has already scored two chart-topping singles with "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16″ and "Break on Me." Urban debuted "John Cougar, John Deere, and John 3:16" at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, Tennessee in February 2015. Urban told The Boot that it "was sent to me a few months ago by one of the songwriters, and I loved it immediately".
Lyrically, the song uses several name-drops to illustrate the narrator's influences in life, culminating in "I learned everything I needed to know from John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16." Musically, it features a "slowed, almost '70s funk vibe with distinct drum loops and several time changes".
Urban recorded the song at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, and co-produced it with longtime producer Dann Huff. Urban told Nash Country Weekly that he was having difficulty creating a suitable vocal track until he took a bass guitar from the studio wall and played a bass line which he had originally intended to replace with one from a session musician, but ultimately left in the final recording.
"Break on Me" debuted at number 54 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart dated November 7, 2015. The song has sold 195,000 copies in the United States as of February 2016. On the Country Airplay chart dated March 12, 2016, "Break on Me" jumped from number 6 to number 1, making for the biggest jump to No. 1 since Rascal Flatts' "Here Comes Goodbye" in April 2009, also ascended from No. 6 to No. 1.
