Seal is Ponius Pilate in the New "Passion" Musical
While Trisha Yearwood plays Mary in the new musical The Passion, Seal now takes up the role of Pontius Pilate. Pontius Pilate was the fifth prefect of the Roman province of Judaea from AD 26-36. He served under Emperor Tiberius, and is best known from the biblical account of the trial and crucifixion of Jesus, where he washed his hands clean and sentenced Jesus to be crucified.
The Passion is a two-hour musical event which will air live from New Orleans on March 20, 2016 8-10 PM. Hosted and narrated by New Orleans native Tyler Perry, it will tell the story of the last hours of Jesus Christ, featuring a cast of top entertainers performing popular tunes arranged by music producer Adam Anders (Glee, Rock of Ages). The project is looking to capitalize on recent interest in both live TV musicals (NBC's The Sound of Music, The Wiz!) and Jesus-themed programming like The Bible and Killing Jesus.
The story will be staged live at iconic New Orleans, while featuring a procession of hundreds of people carrying a 20-foot, illuminated cross from Champion Square outside the Superdome to the live stage at Woldenburg Park on the banks of the Mississippi River.
The Passion will also feature Chris Daughtryas Judas, Trisha Yearwood as Mary and Prince Royce as Peter. Superstar singer and songwriter Seal follows in the footsteps of the iconic David Bowie, who played Pontius Pilate in Martin Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ.
The Passion will premier on Fox live from New Orleans on Palm Sunday, March 20.
