Some Shocking News About Randy Travis' Health
Randy Travis is not only a veteran country music superstar where he has had 16 #1 hits, but since the year 2000, Travis has recorded numerous Gospel albums. Three of Travis' most prominent Christian albums includes Inspirational Journey (2000), Rise and Shine (2002), and Worship & Faith (2003). His single "Three Wooden Crosses" from the album Rise and Shine reached No. 1 and won the CMA song of the year in 2003.
On July 7, 2013, Travis was admitted to a Dallas area hospital for viral cardiomyopathy after a viral upper respiratory infection. His condition was classified as critical. Three days later, Travis suffered a massive stroke and had surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. By God's grace, the "I Told You So" singer recovered/ He was released from Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas on July 31, 2013, and entered a physical therapy facility. Following his stroke, and despite physical therapy, Travis has been unable to sing or speak and has difficulty walking, having to rely on a cane.
However, Travis' health since after has become under wraps until recently, in December of 2015, longtime friend of the talented singer, Chuck Lipps visited Randy and his wife, Mary at their Texas home. According to Lipps: "He can talk ... say words, but no sentences. He is alert and knew me."
Apparently the singer was doing really well and able to walk a lap around the house without the help of his wife. Lipps had asked if he could spend a half-hour with his old friend, and instead they spent all day together recalling old times and looking through a photo album.
Lipps says that the singer was smiling as they looked at the album, and many photographs were of the two performing together in the late '80s. The singer, his wife, and Lipps spent a great amount of time talking about the good old days and even went to dinner together that evening. Upon returning home, Lipps says that Randy's wife had sent a message saying that the singer was happy to have seen an old friend and talk about their times together.
Although still in recover, Randy's friend says that he has no doubt he will be back on his feet. "I think Randy will make a total recovery," Lipps said with conviction. "It was an amazing day. I am proud of him. He is lucky to be alive."
