Carrie Underwood's "Greatest Hits: Decade #1" is One of Six Albums to Go Platinum
Prior to Internet illegal downloading, streaming, and itunes (where you don't have to buy the entire album), albums could go platinum and sell over a million copies easily. Nowadays, only 6 artists were able to reach that benchmark in 2015! Carrie Underwood joins the ranks of Adele, Drake, Taylor Swift, and others when her album Greatest Hits Decade #1 went platinum. During its first week, Greatest Hits: Decade #1 sold 94,000 copies - the best debut by a hits collection from any artist in more than six years. The project was also the best-selling hits collection of 2015.
Greatest Hits: Decade #1 features 25 songs from throughout Underwood's first 10 years in the music industry, as well as two new songs: "Something in the Water" and "Little Toy Guns." "Something in the Water," the lead single off the collection, was also a #1 Billboard Christian hit. The song which tells the story of a man who met Christ and felt his life changing. The change started with he being baptized in a river. The song also samples the hymn "Amazing Grace" which is the undergirding theme of the song.
"Something in the Water" was released on September 29, 2014 and it became Underwood's 14th #1 hit on Hot Country Songs and her second in 2014. It topped the former chart for seven weeks and the latter for 26 weeks, and also debuted at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance.
"Something in the Water" was met with widespread critical acclaim. Rolling Stone praised the song stating that "Underwood sings in the soaring song showcasing her heavenly high vocal range" and called the song a "spiritual heartstring-tugger". Billboard praised the song with 4 out of 5 stars, stating: "Carrie Underwood offers a message of faith in times of trouble". Music Times praised the song by saying that Underwood "pulls out all of her strongest, boldest notes for the religious anthem" and that the song "builds to some of the greatest heights Underwood has reached to date"
Here are the words to "Something In The Water"
He said, "I've been where you've been before.
Down every hallway's a slamming door.
No way out, no one to come and save me.
Wasting a life that the Good Lord gave me.
Then somebody said what I'm saying to you,
Opened my eyes and told me the truth."
They said, "Just a little faith, it'll all get better."
So I followed that preacher man down to the river and now I'm changed
And now I'm stronger
There must've been something in the water
Oh, there must've been something in the water
Well, I heard what he said and I went on my way
Didn't think about it for a couple of days
Then it hit me like a lightning late one night
I was all out of hope and all out of fight
Couldn't fight back the tears so I fell on my knees
Saying, "God, if you're there come and rescue me."
Felt love pouring down from above
Got washed in the water, washed in the blood and now I'm changed
And now I'm stronger
There must be something in the water
Oh, there must be something in the water
And now I'm singing along to amazing grace
Can't nobody wipe this smile off my face
Got joy in my heart, angels on my side
Thank God almighty, I saw the light
Gonna look ahead, no turning back
Live every day, give it all that I have
Trust in someone bigger than me
Ever since the day that I believed I am changed
And now I'm stronger
There must be something in the water (amazing grace)
Oh, there must be something in the water (how sweet the sound)
Oh, there must be something in the water (that saved a wretch)
Oh, there must be something in the water (like me)
Oh, yeah
I am changed (I once was lost)
Stronger (but now I'm found)
(was blind but now I see)
