Mia Fieldes “Fearless” Single Review
Mia Fieldes may be a new name to some. But for those attuned to reading liner notes on CD sleeves and for those who are insiders of the musical arena, the name Mia Fieldes would not be foreign. For the first ten years of her career, Fieldes spent leading worshipping at her home church Hillsong. Then through the gentle prodding of Darlene Zschech, Fieldes went on to craft songs for the Aussie mega-church. "Adonai," "Here in My Life" and "All for Love" are some of Fieldes contributions to the ever-popular Hillsong Live albums. After her tenure with Hillsong, Fieldes went on to lead worship in a church in Nashville. Never one to let the ink of her pen dry, she has had written songs for Michael W. Smith, Matt Maher, Kari Jobe, Jonny Diaz and many others.
"Fearless" is her debut single as a solo artist. And it's a song lifted from her forthcoming EP "Ashes" that comes to us via Provident Distribution. Though it's touted as a solo artist single, you can't get congregational worship leader out of Fieldes. "Fearless" could easily stand alongside some of her Hillsong compositions and it can easily be used in the expression of worship for countless congregations. Essentially, "Fearless" is a contemporary ballad that starts of soft before exploding into its gigantic hook-laden chorus instilling in our hearts a deep sense of confidence in God's presence.
Those who find their faith been shaken by life's circumstances will find great comfort in this song. Not because the song dispels our fears. Rather, it elevates Christ in such a glorious way that fear itself has to bow down in the Savior's presence. So when we come to the song's bridge when Fieldes sings: "No fear in the crashing waves/No fear when the cost is great/No fear in the midnight hour/You've given me the spirit of power" we know it's no longer Fieldes just singing; it's Jesus singing through her.
