'Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1' Release Date 2014, Director Talks Spinoff Movies
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 released next month and director Francis Lawrence spoke with Empire magazine for their December 2014 issue that hits newsstands on October 30th.
Lawrence shared about the difficulties of having potential spinoff movies. "It's a tough thing. It's a weird thing," Francis said. "That world of Harry Potter, there's a lot to that world that you can explain. You can understand the appeal of telling another story, but can you actually do it without Harry, Hermione and those characters? Will people care as much? And I guess you can say the same thing about the Hunger Games world. There are a lot of past games and a lot of this world, but without Katniss, is it the same? Part of what I like about the series is the connection to things we think about and talk about now. What's the new version of that? That would be the tricky thing."
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 hits theaters everywhere on November 21 and you can start pre-ordering your tickets on October 29.
Katniss Everdeen's role in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 is more vital than ever. This film will pick up immediately where the last film, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire left off. Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), is devastated to learn that her former home, District 12 of Panem, has been obliterated into ashes and her close friend and seemingly love interest, Peeta, has been taken captive by President Snow and the wicked forces of the nation's capitol. Katniss reluctantly becomes the beacon of hope and newfound leader of the rebel forces forming to wage war against the capitol - naming her as "The Mockingjay".
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig and produced by Nina Jacobson's Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the third in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has over 65 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.
