'Ouija' Haunts the Box Office with $20 Million Gross
American supernatural horror-thriller film "Ouija" has just been released last Oct. 24, 2014, timed to Halloween. It grossed an estimated $21 million worldwide, which combines the estimated domestic gross of $20 million and estimated gross of $1 million in other countries.
The film centers on the mysterious death of a girl named Debbie, who recorded herself while playing with an ancient Ouija board, a board said to contact the dead. The incident leads her best friend, Lanie, as well as their close group of friends to scrutinize the board. Later on, they discover that certain things are not to be played with.
The film stars Olivia Cooke as Laine Morris, Daren Kagasoof as Trevor, Douglas Smith as Pete, and Bianca Santos as Isabelle, Ana Coto as Sarah Morris, Shelley Henning as Debbie Galardi, Matthew Settle as Anthony Morris, Vivis Colmbetti as Nona, Robyn Lively as Mrs. Galardi, Bill Watterson as Diner Manager, and Sierra Heuermann as Doris Zander.

The horror film topped "John Wick" film starring Keanu Reeves last weekend at U.S. box office, as per Daily Mail. "John Wick" follows the life of an ex-hitman as he comes out of retirement to trace the gangsters that took everything from him. The action thriller film has grossed $14,150,000 in the United States since its release, claiming the second spot.
Meanwhile, the American war film "Fury" starring Brad Pitt goes to the third place, grossing an estimate of $13 million. It is set during World War II in April 1945, the last month of war in Europe and in a time when the Allies proceed to their final push into Nazi Germany.
Film began in mid-December 2013 in Los Angeles. The film is piloted by tiles White and co-written by White and Juliet Snowden. Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Bradley Fuller, and Bennett Schneir are the movie producers, with David Emmerichs in cinematography.
Movie co-producer Bennet Schneir gave information about the Ouija board as revealed in Bloomberg. There are certain rules to follow when using the ouija boards, also known as spirit boards or talking boards. They should not be used when "alone or in graveyards and always saying goodbye."
President for domestic distribution at Universal Pictures Nikki Rocco spoke her thoughts in a statement in Reuters. The movie budget was $5 million. "The results speak for themselves," she said.
