Crouching Tiger Sequel to be Released on Netflix and Selected Imax Theaters; Michelle Yeoh to Reprise Role and Act Alongside Donnie Yen
Contrary to the traditional manner of theatrical releases, it has been announced recently that the upcoming Crouching Tiger sequel will be released simultaneously on Netflix as well as in selected Imax theatres around the world.
TWC co-chairman Harvey Weinstein shared his thoughts on the matter: "The movie-going experience is evolving quickly and profoundly, and Netflix is unquestionably at the forefront of that movement. We are tremendously excited to be continuing our great relationship with Netflix and bringing to fans all over the world the latest chapter in this amazing and intriguing story."
You've read it right: the Crouching Tiger sequel is going to be the Netflix first movie-which would probably be followed through by other upcoming movies depending on the performance of Netflix Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
This Netflix first movie release is going to be directed by Yuen Wo-Ping, also a martial arts master. Among the list of cast would be Mechelle Yeoh who will be reprising her role as Yu Shu-Lien. Alongside her would be Donnie Yen, who has recently confirmed his part in the film. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, released in 2000, was a huge global hit, earning more than $213 million worldwide and getting nominated for best picture and winning the best foreign language at the Academy Awards.
The much awaited sequel to Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will make its debut on August 28, 2015.
