Brad Pitt's WWII Movie Fury Tops Weekend Box Office with Gore and Violence Unlike Any Other
WWII movies never get old and neither does Brad Pitt. His latest movie, Fury, racks up a total of $23.5 million in box office receipts - most of the audience being dominantly male. If you think you've seen the last of his World War II movie, better think again as Fury brings you more Brad Pitt in the same setting except this time with more blood and gore.
In more than two hours, Fury has shown the brutal effects of war such as acts of violence one could never imagine nor see in a documentary footage. However, if you think the violence is as fun as the ones in Inglorious Basterds, better hold that thought.
Like movies with heroes and villains, directors David Ayer shares that the Fury movie also plays on the idea of good and evil after its screening at the London Film Festival. Pitt adds that the film is not about who is the winner or the loser but is about the "cumulative psychic trauma, that dent in the psyche" every soldier carries with him even as he returns home.
Critics, though praising Ayer for his attempt on delivering a message about the consequences of war, finds the violence upped a bit too much and the storytelling to be heavy-handed.
Pitt is joined by an all-star ensemble including Logan Lerman, Shia LaBeouf, Michael Pena, Jon Bernthal, Jason Isaacs and Scott Eastwood.
During the screening, they were joined by 90-year old Peter Comfort, who was an ex-tank crewman in World War II and served as the film's adviser.
