Facebook Messenger App Privacy Concerns: Crazy Allegations and Solutions
Facebook Messenger App Privacy Concerns: Crazy Allegations and Solutions
The Messenger app was introduced over a year ago, but it was until a few months back that people actually started complaining about it for a number of reasons. Everything took off brilliantly and many users thought that this messenger is another cool way of chatting and sending pictures or stickers to emote. However, as soon as Facebook acquired What's App, things started to change.
Gradually, Facebook chose to remove all messaging functions on original social networking app, forcing users across the world to download messenger on Android, iOS, and Windows devices. That's when users also realized that Facebook is asking for creepy permissions to access everything from contacts to microphones and from picture album to location. Many critics believe that these Facebook Messenger app concerns are genuine especially when identity theft is such a widespread crime all across the world through internet.
However, Facebook has already set up a page explaining why and how these permissions affect usage. They emphasize on the fact that there is nothing wrong with granting access to the data as it helps with the overall user experience. As a matter of fact, according to Benzinga, Snapchat and Starbucks are just two of similar apps asking for permissions.
It turns out that users are a little more sensitive to what Facebook does and freak out a little too early. Mark Zuckerberg actually does not want to spy on its users and just aims at creating an application that facilitates communication. Camera permission simply helps the app to reach the album and share photos when you want, microphone helps with audio messages, contact list cannot be accessed without permission, and text message access is just to verify the phone number with authentication code according to PC Advisor updates.
However, if these permissions still freak you out, there are settings to restrict messenger app. You can simple go to 'Settings' and choose what privileges Facebook Messenger app has. From location to microphone and contacts, you can turn it off on both Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. After all, it is the better way to deal with privacy concerns than believing everything others have to say about it.
