‘Black-ish’ Season 1 Episode 5: To Spank or Not To Spank; That Is The Question!

'Black-ish' Season 1 Episode 5: To Spank or Not To Spank; That Is The Question!
"Black-ish" is ABC's newest family comedy show featuring the brilliant Laurence Fishburne of "The Matrix" and Anthony Anderson of "Transformers". As reported by the TV After Dark, the show has taken the difficult task of highlighting a specific cultural/ethnic lifestyle, while showcasing universality to still reach those that don't belong to a particular ethnicity that the show has taken roots from.
If you've never seen the show, the above words will instantly draw a picture of a modern "The Cosby Show"; however, if we are to put it that way, we will be taking away what the whole "Black-ish" team is trying to achieve. The classic "The Cosby Show" have set their focus on an African-Americal middle to upper class family. "Black-ish", on the other hand, has expounded the pre-established concept through digging into "what really makes a person 'black' in America?"
The show portrays a cultural heritage within a different socioeconomic region, but it has never claimed that it's speaking in behalf of the entire ethnicity being represented. Andre Johnson- played by Anderson, and wife Rainbow- portrayed by Tracee Ross have established a life in a predominately white neighborhood. They have four children, namely Diane, Jack, Andre Jr., and Zooey. Fishburne is playing as these children's grandfather and is rather famous for being their "pops".
"Black-ish" might not be the most perfect of shows, but it has excelled in its casting.
Its pilot episode introduced Andre Jr's relationship with his father. Andre Jr's only wish is to be accepted by his white friends who prefers to call him Andy. The father, Andre Johnson, perceives the change of name as a rejection of his roots, but eventually finds out that, more than anything else, is a strategy to date girls.
In the most recent episode, we have learned the patriarch and matriarch's personalities, who has revealed that Dre is a "praise hog" and Rainbow is a "control freak".
The upcoming episode, according to the TV Line, Dre and Rainbow will agree to no loner discipline their children through spanking. However, Jack will commit some disobeying act, which will necessitate some disciplinary actions. The kids will be on tip toes as to whether their parents will take back their words or not.
The "Black-ish" season 1, episode 5 will air on October 22, Wednesday.
