Brad Pitt’s ‘Fury’ Co-Star Shia LaBeouf: I Became Christian, David Ayer Was Like My Father
Brad Pitt's 'Fury' Co-Star Shia LaBeouf: I Became Christian, David Ayer Was Like My Father
According to "Fury" star Shia LaBeouf, the box-office hit World War II movie "Fury" made him a Christian.
"I found God doing 'Fury.' I became a Christian man not in a f--king bull---t way but in a very real way," LaBeouf said in an interview with Interview Magazine. He will be gracing the cover of the magazine's November issue.
Playing a soldier with a war name "Bible," LaBeouf said he could have just said the prayers that were on the page in "Fury," but it was a real thing that really saved him.
The actor described "Bible" as "a Christian man, a righteous man, who will tell you the difference between killing and murder and there is a big difference.
He added that the character "lives his life by the book, but still will kill you if you are on the other side, and he'll have no problems sleeping at night."
"Fury" director David Ayer had to ask LaBeouf to spend time with a World War II veteran, Don Evans, so that the actor could internalize more effectively "Bible's" constrasting belief in God and interest in killing, Gospel Herald reported.
It appears to be his first time to have real trust in a director but LaBeouf said he has had directors who he has respected.
"You could give me your notes, I roger that, but I'm going to do what I do. I've been a stubborn actor. David, though, was in complete control. He was like the marionette puppeteer. He was like my father," he said of the director.
Moreover, LaBeouf said it is difficult for him to trust a man as he is abandoned by his father but thanked "Fury" director David Ayers and his co-star Brad Pitt for helping him.

He said he really looked up to Ayer and Pitt describing the former as "a full subscriber to Christianity" and the latter as someone who comes from "a hyper-religious, very deeply Christian, Bible Belt life," but rejected it and "moved toward an unnamed spirituality."
While "Fury" is branded as a war movie, it has a lot of several Christian messages such as God's grace and Christ's redemption, according to Breitbart.
