Channing Tatum's Stripping Video Released; 'The Book Of Life' Star: I Can Do Many Roles, Thanks To My Stripper Past
A video of "The Book Of Life" star Channing Tatum stripping has recently been released by US Weekly.
In the video taken in 1999, Tatum was performing at a Chippendales-style revue called Male Encounter at a now-defunct Florida nightclub wearing a neon thong but did not go completely nude because of the revue's strict no-nudity policy.
He was working as a stripper under the alias "Chan Crawford" at the time and he was only 18.
Now 34, Tatum voiced the character Joaquin in 20th Century Fox and Reel FX's animated fantasy "The Book of Life" with Diego Luna voicing the character Manolo and the "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Zoe Saldana for the character Maria's voice.
Costing $50 million to produce, "The Book Of Life" earned $17 million from 3,071 theaters on its debut ranking number three at the weekend box office behind "Fury" starring Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf and "Gone Girl" starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris, Variety reported.
In a recent interview with The New York Times' T Magazine, Tatum said, "Personally, I like being pushed into corners. Being a stripper exposed me to a lot of people I might never have met, and that has turned out to be a gift."
Noting that struggling with poverty forced him to be creative, the actor added, "There are lots of characters I feel I can play as a result."
On July 1, 2015, Tatum's "Magic Mike" sequel titled "Magic Mike XXL" directed by Gregory Jacobs will hit theaters.
Apparently, Jenna Dewan-Tatum's husband is not ashamed of his stripper past and does not regret it.
In "Magic Mike XXL," Tatum plays a male stripper with Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello, Gonald Glover, Adam Rodriguez, Kevin Nash, Stephen Boss, Mike Gassaway, Brandon Michael Hale and Michael Strahan among others.
Putting his stripper past into use, Tatum also co-wrote the "Magic Mike XXL" script with Reid Carolin.
The female cast of the stripper movie includes Jane McNeill, Mary Kraft, Judi Blair, Crystal Hunt, Sharon Blackwood, Andie MacDowell, Elizabeth Banks, Jada Pinkett Smith and "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp's girlfriend Amber Heard among others.
