Facebook Messenger App Permissions Explained: Find Useful Answers
Ever since Facebook has come up with messenger application a few months back, it has upset users for a number of reasons. It's not like that the app is inferior, but the way Facebook has forced users to download it hasn't gone well with many. Notably, the messaging services were integrated with original Facebook app, however, now it has been split and users have no other option but to download this new app to view and reply to their important messages.
Furthermore, this new messenger application asks for some creepy permission requests to access phone calls, microphone, pictures, messages and much more. Such invasive acts have made many users stay away from iOS and Android app on their smartphones and tablets. So, what's the truth in this? Why is Facebook asking for so many permissions?
According to a number of tech websites including Yahoo News, majority of applications ask for such permissions but people rarely think of it as an invasion to their privacy. There is actually something with the popularity of Facebook and everything they do. People tend to think that Facebook offices have some really secret plans to access all the data on our device.
Interestingly, so much was being said about the messenger app permissions that Facebook has finally uploaded a page explaining why and how this application works. The developers explain that app accesses your pictures to take videos and picture while using the Messenger. It helps send and receive files directly. Similarly, the microphone request allows users to record messages and exchange audio bits with friends and family. As for the contact, you can make a call directly from Messenger without having to reach the dialer in first place. Finally this page expalins that the text message request allows the Messenger app to confirm phone number without you actually typing the code received through SMS.
Facebook explains that there is no way this Messenger app can access the data without you knowing about it and uploading it somewhere. Still if you'd like to change a few settings, it is very much possible to revoke the permissions through 'Settings' in all types of operating systems in phones and tablets.
