Is 'Mortal Instrument' Sequel Possible After Disappointing Box Office Last Year?
It might be very sad for the Cassandra Clare's fan to know that the "Mortal Instrument's" sequel is impossible to happen this time. After a disappointing box office last year, the production for the next film is put on hold. In 2013, the film which stars by Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins was only able to earn $31 million at the domestic box office. This is such a poor sum that led to the decision of putting the big screen sequel on indefinite hold.
The "Mortal Instrument" franchise may not be getting another film soon, but all the Clare YA books fans will still have their chance to see an adaptation of the series, which is set to shift to the smaller screen as a TV series, according to Movie Fone.
The head of TV projects at Constantin, Martin Moszkowic confirms the TV adaptation, which the company thinks will be more advantageous to Clare's storyline.
The Constantin Film, a production company starts developing The Mortal Instruments into a high-quality drama series. The production will start by next year and there is no network attached to it by now.
Moszkowicz told the Hollywood Reporter "making the novels into a TV series really make a lot of sense and the prospect of the show is very exciting" and "there were a lot of things going on at the novel that they were unable to portray in the movie". The books have told numerous of stories that were unseen in the film. With the TV series, viewers will have the opportunity to go deeper and discover the world of the characters on better details and depth.
In addition, Constatin Film hired Ed Decter to be the show runner. The new TV series will still follow the lead character Clary Fray. She is a girl who grows up thinking she is a real human but will soon learn that she is actually a Shadowhunter, a human with pure and saintly traits.
Until now, there are no updates about what channel the series will air, because any channel has not picked it yet. The production has not even begun. The exact details on the channel, production as well as the cast members are still unknown. All we have to do is to wait and see.
Will this move save the popular book series?
