'Left Behind' 2014: Another Novel-Turned-To-Movie Failure - Lalonde's Second Try Was Dubbed As A Pretentious 'Christian' Movie
After the first "Left Behind" movie adaptation's box office collection disappointment, a plan to remake another film out of the written words has been both a shock and a source of hope to movie critics.
On the contrary, Paul Lalonde's second "Left Behind" movie released recently has been yet another novel-turned-movie failure, WND reported. This is despite "Left Behind" 2014's bigger production costs and better roster of lead actors.
"Adding a bigger budget and even bigger stars wasn't enough to save this flawed film. On almost every front, Left Behind fell short again," according to the same WND report. Compared to the writer and producer's first try, Lalonde's "Left Behind" 2014 has enhanced in terms of funds and talent.
The novel's first release on the big screen was made with a very low budget with new "amateurish" artists while the "Left Behind" 2014 has heftier production fund and better Hollywood talents including ,no less than, the veteran actor Nicholas Cage.
In what area does it fail this time? According to Christianity Today's reports, "Left Behind" 2014 was literally left behind because of it is called a "Christian" movie yet it was not able to embody and uncover real virtues and principles based on Christian faith.
Sadly, "Left Behind" was not able to discover the answers for resounding Christian beliefs and to portray individual with Christian values. Its main topic, which is "Rapture," does not also mean that the movie will be an interesting film for the intended market - Christians.
"Left Behind" 2014 has also fallen short in terms of screenplay, especially, in terms of character's back story and character development. The failure to present cohesive interesting subplots made "Left Behind 2014 ends up feeling more like a string of sermon illustrations than a compelling, cohesive story," said Drew Zahn, WND reporter.
On the lighter side, Lalonde's improved roster of actors for "Left Behind" has given the film positive reviews that it indeed deserves. Grantland even commended Nicholas Cage and the rest of actor's portrayals in "Left Behind" 2014.
"Left Behind" 2014 has its fair share of polarized reviews but good or bad publicity is still publicity. So the choice is now yours dear readers.
