'Stalker' Latest News and Other Updates: Creator of the Show 'Stalker' Defends The Shows' 'Creepiness'
Kevin Williamson has quite a reputation. He's known as the Scream king, Vampire wrangler and even a serial killer enthusiast. His latest project, the TV series "Stalker" which stars Maggie Q, has gained quite a reputation for itself. Critics have been very vocal about "Stalker" being one of the worst show in TV. They see it as exploitative, especially when it comes to violence against woman. There are those who even want the show cancelled
In an interview with Yahoo TV, Williamson said, "Well with The Following I get it all the time. 'Why so much [violence against women]?'" He then added defensively that "Stalker" also showcase violence against men and woman, and stated that "his other uber-violent show just as many men as women."
Williamson is quick to point out the difference between "The Following" and "Stalker," saying that "Stalker" is more methodical "one case per week" show. And for those who don't like his shows, his mantra is, "Don't watch it. Turn the channel."
If you ever watched the premiere episode of "Stalker," it's true that it does have its own level of creepiness - the show is about stalking after all. The show is not for the faint hearted. It opens the eyes of the viewers to the realities of how stalking in an extreme level can affect someonelse's lives. The premiere episode also showed that stalking affects all gender - both male and female can either be the victim or the prey. The poster for the show is, well, creepy and the show's tagline is even creepier - "You're being watched. " But here's the thing, creepy sells. It is a proven formula when it comes to television series, and we can never deny the fact that several shows have succeeded using that formula. Take "Criminal Minds" for example and even "Dexter" to name a few. Maybe the viewer's are curious about those people who are capable of doing these horrible things. These shows give insights as to how a criminal think. And maybe it also gives viewers hope that no matter how dark things could come, there are always people who will stop at nothing to catch these offenders.
