Paul Potts Album and Movie: Relive it All Over Again - 'One Chance' The Story of Paul Potts
Who can forget Paul Potts, a manager at Carphone Warehouse, who blew every one away with his rendition of Nessun Dorma during his audition at Britain's Got Talent. He won the first series of the competition and released his first album, titled "One Chance." The album "topped sales charts in nine countries."
Last 2013, a memoir titled "One Chance," was published by Weinstein Books which tells the story of Paul Potts - from childhood, passion about music, and his eventual win at the Britain's Got Talent. A film of the same title - "One Chance" is a comedy-drama and is directed by David Frankel. It is written by Justin Zackham and the soundtrack of the film was scored by Theodore Shapiro, and it was nominated for Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.
The trailer of the film "One Chance" gave us a glimpse of Paul's life as a child - his struggles and his passion.
In an interview with Yahoo, Frankel was asked how he decided on making the film. Frankel said that everything started after his "twins" asked him to watch Paul Potts audition video that had gone viral. Frankel said, "It was so rare to watch a man's life change before your eyes in two minutes. For the first minute of the Britain's Got Talent clip, Paul Potts is a chubby guy with bad teeth, a cheap suit, and a lousy haircut. He was appealing because he was nervous and shy and you expected him to bomb out - and then he was being judged by Simon Cowell, the most astute and vicious of judges. Then, the moment Paul opened his mouth, a different person emerged."
Frankel told Yahoo that before making the film "One Chance," he had a chance to meet Paul Potts in person. He asked Potts where his love for opera and singing did came from, and Potts said that "he felt a calling and that opera gave him peace." Frankel was quick to add that Potts was an outcast and was bullied all his life. It is safe to say that he found his refuge in music.
Potts' life radically changed because he followed his passion. It maybe a rough path, but he never gave up. He is now living the life of his dreams - he's got a house, married to the woman that he loves, and most of all, he gets to do what he loves the most - sing opera.
