'Twilight' Latest News: Good News Twihards! 'Twilight' is Making a Comeback
Twilight fans are going to be blown away. After two years since the series ended, the vampires and werewolves are coming back, not on the big screen but on a small screen. That's would suffice for now.
It was announced by Stephanie Meyer that they are going to choose at least "five aspiring female directors to make short films" based on the classic characters from Twilight. Lions Gate is going to finance the production of the short films and it's going to be shown on Facebook in 2015.
Michael Burns, vice chairman of Lions Gate, said, "We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of Twilight to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans."
The panelist responsible for choosing the directors of the short films are Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Julie Bowen, Catherine Hardwicke, Cathy Schulman, Jennifer Lee and Kirsten Stewart.
Meyers said in a statement, "The female voice is something that has become more and more important to me as I've worked in the film industry. The short film series is going to be called The Storytellers - New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga." The organization, Women in Film, is also supportive of the project to help develop and mentor female directors. The contest details are currently being discussed such as how long the film is going to be. Lions Gate are not revealing how much are they going to spend on the production, but revealed the cast of "Twilight" movies are not going to appear on the short film version of "Twilight." Author Stephanie Meyers is an integral part of the project.
Burns added, "This is the just the beginning-a template, if you will," Burns added. "You can probably guess what might be coming next."
First, NetFlix is going to have its first original movie and now Twilight short films being released on Facebook. It's evident that filmmakers are constantly finding different ways to distribute film to larger crowds from across the nation and with Facebook - across the globe. Is this what the future of the film industry going to be like? What about the theaters?
