LeBron James Takes the Cleveland Cavaliers to Training Camp, Addresses Media
The Cleveland Cavaliers today, September 27, officially starts their training camp for the NBA's 2014-2015 season. The Cavs' announced 16-man roster is comprised of Kyrie Irving, Matthew Dellavedova, A.J. Price, Dion Waiters, Mike Miller, Joe Harris, Keith Bogans, LeBron James, Shawn Marion,, James Jones, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Lou Amundson, Anderson Varejao, Brendan Haywood, and Alex Kirk. The team's new coach is David Blatt, the first European-based person to become an NBA head coach.
At yesterday's pre-camp media day, LeBron James, already dressed in his No. 23 Cavs jersey, was asked the biggest lesson he learned from his previous team and which he would now be imparting on his new team mates. As reported by ESPN, James replied: "Patience. You need to be very patient with the process and understand. I think everyone always wants to see the end result and what's at the end of the tunnel, and don't quite understand what goes on from the start to the finish and what's in between that. And I understand that and I know that, so patience is the biggest thing that I've learned."
USA Today picked this up from James: "The challenge with the team is every single day we have to understand we can't waste that day. We have to prepare each and every day to get better. Each day and each month, throughout the process we have to give ourselves a chance to compete at the end of the year. It's not going to be easy at all, but if we have patience with the process and everyone buys into coach's system then it will help us out a lot."
According to Indy Star, James also said: "There's not many guys on our roster that's done some great things. So I'm going to have to teach and lead and inspire those guys. It's still going to be a process. Even in my first year in Miami we went through a process and some tough times. It's always a process each and every year. It will be a challenge for us. In order to be successful, you've got to have some pitfalls."
The Cavs, along with the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat, have to start their training camp one week earlier than the NBA other teams as they are slated for some preseason games overseas. On October 11, James new team will be facing the Heat, his old team, at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
