Apple TV vs Amazon Fire TV: Specifications, Features and Price-wise, which is the better deal?
Apple TV vs Amazon Fire TV: Specifications, Features and Price-wise, which is the better deal?
While buying a streaming TV set, buyers often consider Apple TV. However, Amazon Fire TV just might be a worthy alternative. A closer look at their specifications might help buyers to decide which they should go for.
Amazon Fire TV is much cheaper compared to Apple TV due to its low setup costs. Apple incorporated Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet into its TV, making it more costly o set up than Fire TV. Fire TV however, has the latest Qualcomm Atheros QCA6234 MIMO Wi-Fi setup that users can definitely enjoy.
On the one hand, Apple TV has 2nd generation dual core A5 processor, which has clock speed of 1GHz. Fire TV on the other hand, is powered by Qualcomm dual core Krait 300 cpu which has clock speed of 1.7GHz and Adreno 320 GPU. These two devices are neck to neck in their capabilities.
Power management system with a single die 38S1040 with latest audio IC is added in the Apple TV, which costs around $1.47. The Fire TV has double die Qualcom PMM8920 IC and the price is at $4.20.
Apple TV was released in March 2012 and Fire TV was launched after 2 years. The cost of the TV was decreased down when the Bill of Materials was introduced. The new cost for the TV dropped to $70.20. Amazon Fire TV is also cheaper now, with a price of $92.99 after releasing the Bill of Materials. This makes Apple TV cheaper to Amazon Fire TV now.
The problems in Fire TV is that it can't stream HBO Go. "Game of Thrones" fans therefore were not keen to have it when it was released. However, now that the company has announced that HBO Go will be available on Fire TV later by this year, some looking for a streaming TV would certainly find this a worthy choice. Of course, users can also mirror HBO Go from a Kindle Fire tablet to Fire TV and then to HDTV. Still, Apple TV has a built in system to reauthorize, which is a better solution than mirroring.
The TV voice search on Fire is far better with more accurate command taking ability. The streaming video quality is also better since Fire support 1080P streaming while Apple is limited to 720P.
There has been some updates for Apple TV with new features of iOS but from an user experience it is pretty clear that Fire TV is ahead of Apple TV.
