NBA Trade News: Sacramento Kings Trade Jason Terry With Houston Rockets For Alonzo Gee and Scotty Hopson
According to official NBA news, the Houston Rockets today acquired veteran guard Jason Terry in exchange for forward Alonzo Gee and guard Scotty Hopson in a trade with the Sacramento Kings. Although the trade was agreed in principle weeks ago, it was only today that the exchange deal was finalized. Under the NBA trade deal, Terry goes to Houston along with two future second round picks. In exchange, Gee and Hopson along with a $5.85 million trade exception are being sent to Sacramento.
The 37-year old Terry is best remembered for having helped the Dallas Mavericks to an NBA championship in 2011. He won the 'NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award' in 2009. He also made the fourth most three-point field goals in a career in NBA history. He played for the Atlanta Hawks from 1999 to 2004, for the Mavericks from 2004 to 2012, with the Boston Celtics from 2012 to 2013, and with the Brooklyn Nets from June 2013 until February 2014 when he was traded to the Sacramento Kings. Terry did not get to play for the Kings as he need to spend some time in rehabilitation in Dallas following surgery on his left knee. The 15-year NBA veteran has accrued career averages of 15.4 points (.446 FG%, .379 3pt%, .846 FT%), 2.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.31 steals and 32.5 minutes per game in 1136 contests according to Inside Hoops stats. "Terry is in the last year of a $5.8 million deal, which means it's not a terrible gamble for the Rockets, but Houston fans may not want to get their hopes too high about what he brings at this point," says Kurt Helin of NBC Sports.
The 27-year old Gee played for four seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers before being traded first to the New Orleans Pelicans, then to the Houston Rockets, then to the Kings. He is averaging 7.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 24.1 minutes per game. The 25-year old Hopson, on the other hand, was undrafted out of the University of Tennessee and has played in two Cavaliers games last season before being traded first to the Rockets, then to the Kings this off season.
