Amazon Fire Phone, TV, HD, Kindle: The World's Biggest Internet Company's Own Consumer Electronics Brand
The Amazon Fire Phone release date was June 18, 2014, available for pre-order that same day at $200 on contract exclusively with AT&T. Now, it can be bought at 99 cents with a two year contract, or at $450 without one.
In practically every Amazon Fire Phone review, price was pointed out as the single biggest problem. True, the Fire Phone offers at least two features not found in other smartphones - a "Dynamic Perspective," which provides a 3D effect on the phone by using four front-facing cameras that track eye movement, and the "Firefly," which uses the rear camera to automatically recognize text, sounds, and objects for identifying products available on or through Amazon. But, the $200 price tag and the exclusivity to AT&T make buying it a bad deal when compared with getting an iPhone or an Android-powered smartphone.
Amazon Fire TV release date was April 2, 2014. Priced at just $99, the digital media player and microconsole fared much better both in the reviews and in terms of actual sales. Amazon's set-top box allows for streaming videos not only from Amazon's own streaming service but from other sites like Hulu and Netflix. It also allows for voice search for movies and gaming fares.
Amazon's Fire HD is the company's second generation Kindle Fire tablet computer. It was released on September 25, 2013. The third generation model, or the Amazon Fire 2 tablet, is the Kindle Fire HDX and it was released barely two months later on November 7, 2013. Amazon's Fire tablet specs notably include its own proprietary Fire OS 3 mobile operating system and a unique "Carousel" UI. Amazon Fire reviews, both for the tablet computers and the Kindle e-book readers, have generally been favorable.
