Marvel Movie News: Robert Downey Jr. Fights for Black Widow Movie

There has been a long-running buzz when it comes to Scarlett Johansson's Marvel superhero character and that she really should get her own movie, perhaps even a franchise. And while the petition has been running from Scarlett Johansson herself, recently even Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr has come to her aid to fight for a Black Widow movie.

Robert Downey Jr is so busy these past few days, as he promotes his latest film The Judge co-starring Robert Duvall at the Toronto International Film Festival. USA Today asked what his thoughts are about a potential Black Widow spin-off movie. He answered with a laugh and added that he thinks Scarlett needs quite a break with her back to back stints with Captain America 2 and Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, he went on to particularly point out that heroines should be given their own limelight, as they have been a huge part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He went on to say that it actually isn't just Scarlett's Black Widow that should get her own movie, even the latest Marvel blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy's Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana and Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts from the Iron Man franchise. However, among the three characters; he strongly has confidence in a Black Widow movie.

In another news, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby star Jessica Chastain has even come in defense of a Black Widow movie. She shared to The Wrap that she doesn't understand why the Scarlett Johansson superhero movie is taking this long.

With Johansson's recent blockbuster film Lucy that managed to knocked The Rock's Hercules at the top spot of the box office, will Marvel really take a Black Widow movie in serious consideration?
