Museum of the Bible Unveils Exhibition "Hagia Sophia: The Churches of the Wisdom of God"

Museum of the Bible is proud to announce the debut of its exhibition, "Hagia Sophia: The Churches of the Wisdom of God." The experience will transport visitors through history, unveiling the splendor, symbolism, and architectural marvels of 37 historic churches dedicated to Hagia Sophia from around the world.
"'Hagia Sophia' or "Divine Wisdom," is an important biblical theme which inspired great architecture that has endured for many centuries," said Museum of the Bible CEO Harry Hargrave. "This special exposition highlights the global importance of these churches."
The exhibition documents the architectural beauty of each structure. With a masterful fusion of prints and panels, visitors will be transported to the origins of these sacred landmarks, marveling at their intricate iconography and understanding their evolving roles in today's world.
"Regardless of its current use, each church was erected as a testament to the centrality of Jesus Christ in the worship of each community," Hargrave added. "They continue to stand as some of the greatest architectural and cultural achievements in the world."
The first Hagia Sophia, established by Constantine the Great, was inspired by 1 Corinthians 1:24, which says, "But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God." Subsequently, as Christianity spread across the globe, more churches dedicated to the Hagia Sophia were built.
"Hagia Sophia: The Churches of the Wisdom of God" promises to be an enriching experience for all, exploring the profound depths of faith, artistry, and history in celebration of the enduring legacy of Hagia Sophia around the world.
The exhibit is open October 12, 2023, through January 21, 2024. Access to the exhibit is included with a general admission ticket, and guests may view the exhibit on Floor 5 of the Museum.
This exhibition is a collaboration with the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO). The exhibition is comprised of submissions to the third IAO International Photo Contest, "The Churches of the Wisdom of the God in History and the World," provided courtesy of the IAO. Dignitaries from Greece will be present for the opening event.
