Ricky Carden of Down East Boys Offers Exclusive Insights into Their New Album

Down East Boys will be releasing their brand new album The Stories We Tell (Sonlite Records) on May 6. The album will feature their current lineup of singers (lead Ricky Carden, baritone Daryl Paschal, bass Alex Utech and tenor Doug Pittman). The Stories We Tell offers a sampling of all the elements that have contributed to the success of the group's musical ministry - uplifting songs; thoughtful, creative arrangements relevant to today's faithful while keeping strong links to tradition; and, above all, singing that gives each voice an opportunity to testify within a tight-knit quartet setting.
We are honored to catch up with Ricky Carden for this exclusive interview.
Q: Thank you so much for doing this interview with us. Recently, there are some changes in the line-up of Down East Boys, tell us more about some of the newer members.
Our new bass singer joined us in September, of last year. His name is Alex Utech. He is from Scottsboro AL. He's a great singer and we are excited to have him.
Q: I have read that you have been with Sonlite Records for almost 20 years! How do you keep your music fresh and engaging?
Jeff Collins is one of the best producers in our industry. He's great at keeping things fresh while keeping our sound in the same vein.
Q: What were some of the goals you have had in the making of this new album?
We wanted to record music that would keep our roots in traditional gospel music intact, while adding a flare of newness. We also wanted to record songs that shared the message of Christ and the difference he can make. It all starts with the lyrics,, and I think we have some great songs.
Q: What were some of the highlights for you when you were making this new record?
A highlight for me was to hear a song I wrote with Chris Binion come to life. The song is titled 'The Altar.' I hope it takes people back to a time in their lives when they accepted Christ. I was thrilled with how it turned out.
Q: Tell us more about your current single "Your Sins Are Forgiven."
A powerful song that truly covers everything we want to say in our ministry and concerts. The message is one the world needs to hear. Wherever you are in your life, you can call on the Lord and find true peace and forgiveness that only he can give.
Q: How do you hope these songs will be impacting your listeners?
I hope this album brings joy and that it also brings a challenge to all of us to share the message of Christ now more than ever.
Q: Where can our readers go if they would like to catch you live?
