Beloved Children's Book Series "Goosebumps" by R.L. Stine Comes to Theaters August 2015 Starring Jack Black
90's kids everywhere...rejoice! "Goosebumps," the beloved children's book series written by R.L. Stine, will be coming to the big screen next year. The bestselling series of scary stories for kids will be brought to life by star Jack Black, who will portray R.L. Stine in the movie. "Gullivers Travels" director Rob Letterman reunites with Black as the director for "Goosebumps."
Rather than picking one of the numerous small chapter books to turn into a full-length feature film, the movie will focus on Stine and his daughter Hannah (played by Odeya Rush), who must race to prevent Stine's fictional monsters from destroying their cozy town after a mischievous teenager (played by "Scandal" actor Dylan Minnette) manages to bring them to life.
With funny man Black at the forefront of the film, it can't be a complete scare-fest. Rather, it is a comedy-driven horror flick that will surely delight both the adult audience who loved the books and younger audiences alike.
The film is not meant to be true to R.L. Stine's life. Jack Black commented on the authenticity and inspiration for the film and said,"...even though I'm playing a real person, this is obviously a fictionalized version of his life and nothing that happens in this movie actually happened to him, other than him writing all the books. So I felt like, I was just going to approach it as a character, doing what I thought was most dramatically interesting and right for what was needed.."
Black also remarked on the approachability of the film, saying, "Well, kids like scary movies, but you can't take them to what are the big scary movies now... But kids still like to get a little thrill and a little danger, so you need projects like this."
"Goosebumps" will hit theaters on August 7, 2015.
