Rev. Samuel Rodriguez Appointed President to The Heritage Foundation’s National Coronavirus Recovery Commission
Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, has been appointed to The Heritage Foundation's National Coronavirus Recovery Commission.
The commission "will examine the extraordinary public health crisis facing America and the steps needed to move prudently toward recovery," and it "includes top experts and thinkers from government, public health, disaster response and relief, academia and education, business, and the faith community." It will be led by Kay C. James, president of The Heritage Foundation.
"I am honored to serve in this commission and represent the concerns and priorities of one of the fastest-growing communities in America, Hispanic evangelicals," Rev. Rodriguez said. "Recovering from this national crisis will not only be the work of economists and policymakers, but also of people of faith because healing begins in the intimacy of our homes and local communities. I hope that with prayer and careful consideration we will be able to chart a path forward for our nation."
Rev. Rodriguez joins a list of top experts and thinkers, including The Heritage Foundation's President James and founder Edwin J. Feulner, former Governor of Virginia and U.S. Senator George Allen, Cancer Treatment Centers of America Chief Legal Officer Timothy E. Flanigan, Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader the Honorable William H. Frist, M.D, Joni and Friends International Disability Center Founder and CEO Joni Eareckson Tada and other government and civil society leaders.
According to The Heritage Foundation, the commission will focus on two areas: crisis mitigation and recovery and restoration. The scope of the commission includes charting out "the path to best navigate our nation through this crisis to determine when and how to begin to get Americans' lives 'back to normal' again." The commission will also study policy decisions and how they impact the social and economic landscape in light of the COVID-19 crisis.
