Lauren Daigle Has a Big Night at the Billboard Music Awards
Lauren Daigle has a big night at the Billboard Music Awards. The singer took home three awards, including top Christian artist, top Christian album, and top Christian song. Daigle also performed a stripped-down, intimate version of her song "You Say" at the popular mainstream event.
"You Say" seems to have found quite the audience at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, becoming the most Shazamed performance at the Wednesday ceremony, according to Shazam. According to Shazam, "You Say" accounted for 25% of all Shazams taken of performances during the NBC broadcast. "You Say" even beats out the cumulative Shazams for the three songs performed by the Jonas Brothers, which ranks as the second-most-Shazamed set on the broadcast.
"I think, honestly, people just want that message of hope," a grateful Daigle said of why she believes the song has been such a success. "They just want something truthful to hold onto and to believe about themselves, and there's so many different ways that the world can cut you down and hurt you." She adds that "You Say" is a song to "build people back up."
Last September, Daigle's Look Up Child debuted at No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and No. 1 on the iTunes all-genre chart. Her 40-city headlining theatre Look Up Child Tour kicks off on September 27th in Cincinnati, OH and includes 17 sold-out performances throughout the US.
With a voice that is both smoky and sweet, Daigle has forged a unique sound that is reminiscent of the soulful, heart-in-throat vulnerability of Adele mixed with the raw power of Amy Winehouse. Her ability to connect with her audience has captured critical acclaim and recognition as the fastest-selling new artist for her genre of the last decade. Her debut album, How Can It Be, was certified platinum by the RIAA and produced three certified Gold singles.
