Kerry Douglas Strikes No. 1 on Billboard
The legendary gospel music radio promotions guru and Black Smoke Music Worldwide CEO, Kerry Douglas, has struck No. 1 on Billboard Magazine's Gospel Albums Sales chart with his new compilation album," Kerry Douglas Presents Gospel Mix X" (Black Smoke Music Worldwide/eOne). It's the 10th installment in Douglas' best-selling series of gospel mix tape compilation projects that feature both established and up-and-coming gospel artists.
The 19-track set also debuted at No. 2 on the Top Gospel Albums consumption chart, No. 6 on the Compilation Albums sales chart, No. 23 on the Independent Albums sales chart and No. 97 on the Top Current Albums sales chart.
There are several classic gospel songs from the Black Smoke Music Worldwide vaults such as James Fortune & FIYA's "I Believe" and "I Trust You," which spent 29 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart in 2007. It also features Earnest Pugh's #1 hit, "I Need Your Glory," from 2009 and his recent Top Ten smash, "I Survive."
Zacardi Cortez showcases his gritty, old school soul vocals on his current radio single, "Oh, How I Love You," which hit No. 1 on this week's Billboard Gospel Airplay chart. Jermaine Dolly makes his Gospel Mix debut with his poignant Top 5 hit, "Serve" and Greg O'Quin's treasured 1998 slow jam, "I Told the Storm," is also included.
Over the years, Douglas has transformed dozens of aspiring artists into household names such as James Fortune and Earnest Pugh. He's still illuminating the careers and music of artists such as Damon Little's inspiring "Be Alright;" Demetrius West & Jesus Promoters' "Open Up the Floodgates.";Jimmy Hicks' rousing hand-clapper, "I Owe God a Praise"; Algeron Wright & Triumphant Praise's "From Our Hearts"; and James Johnson, Jr.'s urban flavored cut, "Through It All." The collection also features McDonald's Gospel Fest 2017 Best Male vocalist winner, Ja'Delwen "J1" Robinson, performing "Wonderful Counselor." Poughkeepsie, New York pastor, Edwrin Sutton. Shines on "I Hear Rain," and seasoned singer, Ted Winn, brings the riveting "You Are the Reason" to the proceedings.
