Johnny Depp in Talks to Star in 'The Secret Life of Houdini' Movie
Famous actor, Johnny Depp is on a short list to star as famed magician Harry Houdini in the upcoming film The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero. No official contract has been signed for the 50-year-old actor, but they are in negotiations. The Lionsgate film will be directed by Dean Parisot, who is known for his work on Red 2.
The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero "recasts Houdini as not just a master escape artist but an investigator of the world of the occult."
Depp could fit well into this role with his famous knack for bringing life to odd-ball type characters. Maybe this will come into play as he decides if he wants to sign on to Summit Entertainment's The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero. The role of Houdini in this movie would not be him as a literal superhero, but as a spy who was never far from the spotlight.
The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero is based on the controversial biography penned by William Kalush and Larry Sloman. The film will go beyond painting Houdini as master magician and iconic escape artist, but will also exhibit him as a master of espionage.
Christi Dembrowski is being courted to come on board as a producer on this Houdini biopic, which is based on a script written by Noah Oppenheimer. The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero is looking to roll into production this November.
Infinitum Nihil most recent production to hit theaters with Depp was Lone Ranger, a movie so bombed at the box office. It was a massive flop that is believed to have cost co-producer Disney $150 million. In the aftermath, Depp was caught blaming critics of the movie for it's bad box office outcome.
2016 could be a comeback year for Depp with two of his most popular characters coming back with the Mad Hatter returning for Through The Looking Glass and Jack Sparrow coming back in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
