Moore will fly to New York straight from BBC Proms held at Royal Albert Hall, London, where Moore and other Stax originals Booker T. Jones, Eddie Floyd, William Bell and sideman Steve Croppercelebrate and are being celebrated at the 50th anniversary concert honoring the 1967 Stax/Volt Revue's groundbreaking tour of the UK and Europe that included Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Booker T and the MGs, Eddie Floyd and Arthur Conley. The legendary artists will be joined by Sir Tom Jones, Beverly Knight, James Morrison, Ruby Turner supported by Jools Holland and His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra as part of a star-studded line-up for the Late Night Prom,The Sound of Soul: Stax Records (Friday, September 1).
Moore will perform a duet with his friend of five decades, Sir Tom and the much younger UK soul superstar Beverly Knight before launching into his solo performance of his iconic "Soul Man," marking 50 years since its historic release.
Of this performance, Moore says: "I never imagined I'd be coming across the pond to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of one of the most exciting times in my life, the 1967 Stax/Volt Tour. The love and enthusiasm from the British audiences back then was like nothing any of us had ever experienced before. Performing at the Proms now at Royal Albert Hall with some of those we'd influenced is spectacular. I just wish that Otis, Arthur, Al, Duck, Wayne, Andrew and Dave were here to celebrate with us... Maybe they're all looking down and patting their feet to the beat."
The concert will be broadcast at 10:15pm GMT on Friday, September 1 on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Four. It will be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on Friday, September 15 at 8:00pm GMT.
