Hillary Scott Scores Her First #1 Christian Hit with "Thy Will"
Hillary Scott & The Scott Family score their first #1 Christian single as "Thy Will" rises from 3 to 1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart. Scott is one third of the highly successful country trio Lady Antebellum. "Thy Will" tops Christian Digital Songs for a sixth week (9,000 downloads sold, up 33 percent, according to Nielsen Music) and hits the Christian Airplay top 10 (13-10; 7 million audience impressions, up 32 percent).
Scott co-wrote "Thy Will" after suffering a miscarriage in 2015. "Through the pain, God allowed me to write this song," she recently told Billboard. "That's not just healing for me. Now I am getting to watch the song be healing for other people."
"Working 'Thy Will' to Christian radio has been a great journey for us," says Grant Hubbard, Capitol Christian Music Group vp of promotion. "Talking to radio about 'the singer from Lady A' and hearing their response to the song has been so much fun. This is not just a crossover type song. This song hits the heart of the Christian music format, and stations are responding.
"Hillary has a lot to offer our format. Not just a great voice with a hit song, she has words of encouragement that furthers the reach of this great song."
"Thy Will" is the lead single from Scott and family's forthcoming album. LOVE REMAINS, a 13-track collection of faith-based songs, is a combination of hymns Hillary grew up singing in church, newly-written originals and songs made popular by other artists. With the help of producer Ricky Skaggs, the forthcoming album blurs the lines between gospel, bluegrass, country and pop. At the center of the mix are the rich, entwined voices of the Scotts, who take turns harmonizing and singing lead. These are songs that find the redemption in struggle, the peace in death, the joy in bonding with family members whenever times are tough. The stories behind the songs are personal, it's music with a message and Hillary has rarely sounded more at home.
LOVE REMAINS follows more than 11 million album sales worldwide for Hillary Scott as one-third of the one of the world's most popular groups, Lady Antebellum. The trio has earned six PLATINUM singles and dubbed ACM and CMA "Vocal Group of the Year" three years in a row.
