40,000 Students Are Gathering at the Passion Conference This Year
This year's Passion Conference is set to bring in 40,000 college and unversity students from 1,500 universities and colleges from 47 countries on January 2-4. Helmed by Pastor Louie Giglio, founder of the Passion Movement and pastor of Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia, will be taking place simultaneously at Philips Arena and Infinite Energy Center in Atlanta, as well as theToyota Center in Houston, Texas, Saturday evening. The three-day conference is attended by students mostly between the age of 18 to 25 years old.
Together with Pastor Giglio, John Piper, Christine Caine, Ravi Zacharias and Levi Lusko will be the speakers at the conference. God wants the people of these cities to feel lifted by a gathering of this size," Giglio said.
if you aren't able to attend in person, you can view all the sessions on your computer via live stream.
All those attending the 2016 Conferece are asked to bring a new towel and new socks to address a tangible need in the surrounding communities. Fans will also be encouraged to donate money to help Passion build a hospital for women and children in Syria. "We aren't fleeing from the need, we are actually leaning into the need," Pastor Louie Giglio says.
"While we host large gatherings, Passion is more than a conference. More than an event. More than a feeling. Passion is you and me saying goodbye to lesser things and saying yes to Jesus, the One whose name is above every name," the Passion Conference says on the event's website.
"Hundreds of thousands of college-aged young people have come together in stadiums and arenas across the USA and around the globe to worship Jesus, breathe in His presence, be shaped by the His Word and join hands to extend His mercy and grace to the world."

To coincide with the conference, Passion Worship featuring Chris Tomlin, Kristian Stanfill, Matt Redman, Crowder and others are releasing their new worship album Salvation's Tide is Rising. Pastor Louie Giglio talked on the latest Passion Podcast about how the recording of Salvation's Tide Is Rising was different than previous roll outs. "Normally at Passion, we always get to these arenas, fill them up with people, we record all of it and then we make a record. And we start right away making a record...But it still takes 2 or 3 months to get the record done, finished, mixed, mastered, uploaded to iTunes, and on iTunes. And so it's March or April before we are celebrating all the new songs we heard at a Passion event in January...This year it's a little different of a playbook and I love it. We have already recorded a Passion album!"
