45 Years Ago the Late Lynn Anderson Recorded "(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden"

Forty-five years ago, country music Christian Lynn Anderson recorded her signature hit "(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden." The song became her first No. 1 single.
Written by Joe South, the song topped the U.S. Billboard country chart for five weeks, reached No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart and hit number one on both Cash Box's and Record World's pop and country singles charts. The song was also a major pop hit internationally, topping the charts in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Norway and reaching the top three in the UK and South Africa. Anderson's version of "Rose Garden" remains one of the most successful country crossover recordings of all-time
"It was popular because it touched on emotions," Anderson told the Associated Press of the song, which was originally written for a man. "It was perfectly timed. It was out just as we came out of the Vietnam years, and a lot of people were trying to recover.
"This song stated that you can make something out of nothing," she continued. "You take it and go ahead. It fit me well, and I'll be proud to be connected to it until I die."
Lynn Anderson recently passed away. But before her she passed away, she recorded her first ever Gospel album "Bridges" which features her latest single "Drift Away Gospel."
