Nightlife Worship Introduces Their Debut Album "Arise" in This Exclusive Hallels Interview
God's ongoing authorship of nightlife worship's story began in 2011. Before nightlife was a band, it was the name of monthly worship nights at The Bridge Church in Rancho Santa Margarita, Ca. It was the vision of the church to turn upside down (think Acts 17:6) what the world viewed as "nightlife" and welcome their church family and the city into encountering the freedom and transformative power of Jesus. It was at these events that a spirit-filled and musical chemistry began to establish between them.
Nightlife Worship is set to release their DREAM Worship Records debut "Arise" on March 31st. We are so honored to catch up with them forthis exclusive Hallels interview.
Hallels: How did Nightlife Worship start?
Nightlife worship began as worship nights in 2011 at our home church, The Bridge in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA . The actual worship night was called Nightlife and the vision behind it was to provide an atmosphere where people could encounter Jesus in a Spirit-led atmosphere. There was a lot of freedom, prayer and time to just be with Him. From there a few of us began to really have a lot of musical and spiritual chemistry and began writing songs together.
Hallels: Why did you call yourself "Nightlife"? What's the significance of your name?
I think most of us can admit that the word "nightlife" conjures up images of partying, recklessness, etc. So much of what the vision of our home church is, is to advance the kingdom of God. Our passion is to live in the "offense" not the "defense"...to move out and take ground for the kingdom of God even in our weakness and brokenness..especially in brokenness, for there the power of God is undeniable. The name just seemed to match our band's passion to spread the gospel and to do so with a sense of urgency.
Hallels: For your album "Arise," you utilize Kickstarter to fund the project. Were you nervous in raising support this way?
I wish I could say we had perfect faith to believe that it was a sure thing, but that would be dishonest, ha! However the fact that Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing campaign was what drew us to it. It really put us on our knees to trust God to make the project a success. The beauty of being in that type of faith position is that God gets such great glory, and that should be at the heart of all we do. God's dreams are so much bigger than we could imagine. We're just so grateful to even have something to offer to Him.
Hallels: What are your goals in releasing "Arise"? How do you wish, by God's grace, to impact people and their walk with Jesus with this new album?
II Corinthians 12:9 states But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. It's just so easy to feel like we have to have things "all together" before we move out into the plans and dreams God has for our lives. However the bible makes it glaringly clear that He uses broken, messed up people to accomplish His perfect plans. Our heartbeat is to see people come alive in Jesus and takes risks. Move out in faith without any backup plans. It's not a comfortable life, but it's the only way to live in Christ! And praise God we have a Comforter when we're weary or doubting..God has every base covered for us!
Hallels: I love "Jericho's Fall" and how you make the Scriptures come alive in this song. What's the role of Scripture when you are crafting a worship song?
First of all thanks for the compliment! Scripture is at the core of what we write because it's what has transformed our lives. Reading it, believing it and living it out. Our passion is for the church to rise up and be transformative disciples. When the Spirit brings revelation to the word of God into our hearts, it changes everything. And music...something about when truth and testimony is molded with melody..it sticks and plants deeply within our hearts and minds. That's why it's so important to us to make sure what we're singing 1) Is true and 2) We've experienced. Not to mention our elders and pastors also offer wisdom and perspective.
Hallels: If you have to choose a couple of songs from the album you are most proud of, which would they be? And why?
What's so fun and unique about nightlife is that we all are songwriters and nearly all of us lead in songs on the record. I would recommend listening and getting a good blend of each leader and how God has uniquely shaped His heart in our songs. Song of the Redeemed, Worthy is the Lamb, Most High and Arise and Shine would be a great overall snapshot of what to expect.
Hallels: For our readers who would like to purchase "Arise" and/or find out more about you, where can they go?
We're active on twitter (@nlworship), www.facebook/nightlifeworship and our website, www.nightlifeworship.com. Any of these three would be great! And if anyone would want to lead these songs in their congregation, we provide tutorials and charts to equip your home church teams. We look forward to hopefully singing these songs with you in the near future!
