OnePlus Two Release Date, Specs: Out by Q2 or Q3 and Smaller than One, But OnePlus Still Just "Thinking About It"
The 25-year-old Carl Pei, Director of Global at OnePlus, a new Shenzshen-based smartphone manufacturer founded in 2013, in a Reddit AMA session back in July wrote: "OnePlus 2 should be out in Q2 or Q3 of 2015. By that time, I'd think Android L would be standard. :) We've seen a lot of people asking for a smaller device, and want to let everyone know that we hear you. We're thinking about it." For now though, his company is "just working on the OnePlus One for 2014," according to Android Police.
OnePlus One is OnePlus' first product which launched April 23, 2014, at $299 for the 16GB model and $349 for the 64GB version. Time magazine described it as the "phone of dreams" but added "It's hard to imagine a better phone for Android geeks. Too bad you can't get one." Until yesterday, October 27, getting a chance to buy the OnePlus One is by invitation only. Beginning yesterday however, the company will be hold limited time sales, during which anyone will be able to place an order for the OnePlus One. Initially, the time limit is just one hour. Once the stock of available units runs out, the remaining orders will be converted to pre-orders. Those in the pre-order list will be given an approximation of when to expect the shipment of their orders. OnePlus' new pre-order system will operate side by side with its present by-invitation system for buying its smartphone.
The OnePlus One runs 11S, a custom version of CyanogenMod based on the Android Kitkat 4.4.4, so the OnePlus Two will likely be powered by an Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google's latest mobile OS upgrade. The next-gen OnePlus phone will likely also use a Snapdragon 801 with 3GB RAM, a 3100mAh battery, a 5.5" 1920 x 1080 (Full HD 1080p) JDI display with 401 ppi, a 6-lens 13 MP f/2.0 Sony Exmor IMX214 camera, and StyleSwap replaceable back covers. This time around, the next-gen phone may already feature a microSD card slot as suggested by users. OnePlus' One measures 152.9 × 75.9 × 8.9 millimeters and weighs 162 grams so OnePlus Two will likely measure less in terms of size as noted by Carl Pei.
