Sony SmartWatch 3 Features, Specs, Display, Release Date, Price, Hardware and Latest News: A Comprehensive Review with Pros and Cons!
The Japanese tech giant Sony has unveiled the much-anticipated Sony SmartWatch 3. The SmartWatch 3 is updated and more powerful than its predecessor. Let's review this latest gadget from Sony Corporation and see what we find ...
As reported by Sony, the SmartWatch 3 will be appearing on retail shelves for sale during the northern autumn of 2014. It will be accompanied by several new apps that will be available in the Google Play store by the end of this month. Sony also mentioned that the timing and availability may vary for different regions and markets.
The Sony SmartWatch 3 will come in different variants, while more colors will be introduced gradually over time. The black model is currently the most publicly visible, and two other colors are going to join Sony's wearable league soon. According to retailer Clove, the Classic Black version became available on October 23 and will be followed by the versatile Sport Lime model, which will hit the market in November. Lastly, the Metal model will appear in stores from mid-November.
In terms of price, Sony's new wearable tech device will be a budget product that will cost around 229 euros, or US$290. As one would expect, the pre-orders have already begun and we found the price on the order list of Clove. The Metal version is also displayed in the carrier's product list and, according to Clove's information, the last colorway will be slightly more expensive, retailing for around £215 (272 euros / US$346).
It is worth noting that the specifications of the Sony SmartWatch 3 are very impressive. When it comes to the interface, the display consist of a 1.6-inch transflective screen that comes with a TFT LCD type display, and at 320x320 pixels, the screen resolution is decent. The available Classic Black and Sport Lime models are IP68-certified, meaning that the dust- and water-proof features of the watch are in accordance with the global standards of the lnternational Electrotechnical Commission. The body of the wearable is wrapped with a stainless steel rear panel, and a silicon based rubber strap binds around the user's wrist. Other types of straps are also available, so buyers have the option of changing the strap to a pink or white color.
The dimensions of Sony's new wearable are 36x10x51mm and the entire SmartWatch 3 weighs only 38g. The device is powered by a 1.2GHz ARM A7 quad-core processor, which is assisted by 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage space. While it might seem unfeasible that any more features could be incorporated into a wearable device, Sony has managed to ensure that the SmartWatch 3 also supports Bluetooth 4.0LE, NFC and GPS connectivity, and, in a further display of flexibility, can be synchronized with any smartphone that operates on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or later.
