'Inherent Vice' Trailer is Finally Here - Joaquin Phoenix as 'Doc'
Not much has been released on "Inherent Vice." We all know that it's based on a novel by Thomas Pynchon published in 2009. The cast have been revealed and it's a powerful cast - Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Benicio del Toro, Martin Short, Joanna Newsom, and the author of the book himself, in a rare cameo - Pynchon.
The trailer of "Inherent Vice" is really interesting, funny, and goofy. The trailer shows that it wll also have some action The release of its trailer, just five days before the New York Film Festival, can make more people curious. The video clip starts with a narration: "If it's a quiet night out at the beach, and your ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend and his wife and her boyfriend and a plot to kidnap the billionaire and throw him in a loony bin, maybe you should just look the other way." The narration pretty much tells the premise of the story.
Joaquin Phoenix plays the role of Doc Sportello - a hippie, "pothead" and shaggy private detective. In the clip he's seen investigating the case and crossing paths with people from all walks of life.
The book had been praised by critics. The New Yorker said that the novel was "generally a lighthearted affair." Some even say that you can feel the author's energy in the novel. Critics are now wondering how will the film adaptation compare to the novel itself - will it surpass it? With Paul Anderson as the script writer, we have no doubt that it will. Anderson has been working on a script for "Inherent Vice" since 2011. He even got the blessing of the author himself. "Inherent Vice" reunites Joaquin and Anderson, where they last worked together on the film "The Master".
"Inherent Vice" is a strong contender for an Academy Award. NYFF describes it as "wild" and "cinematic time machine. The movie is set during the 70's and it is nice to relive the music, the fashion and the people in that era. It will immerse the viewers in that culture.
"Inherent Vice" will premiere on December 12, 2014.
