Switchfoot Announces Star-Studded Deluxe Edition of The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version) LP
Today, beloved GRAMMY-winning rock band Switchfoot has announced 'The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version) [Deluxe Edition],' a massive 25-track reimagining of 2003's breakthrough album The Beautiful Letdown. Out on September 15th, the Deluxe Edition includes newly recorded tracks from noted Switchfoot fans, The Jonas Brothers, OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, Jon Bellion, Ingrid Andress, Twenty One Pilots' Tyler Joseph, Owl City, Dayglow, and more, in addition to Switchfoot's re-recorded version of the album and new unreleased B-sides. See full tracklist below. The announcement of 'The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version) [Deluxe Edition]' is accompanied by a new music video for the project's lead single, Jon Bellion's passionate version of Switchfoot's "Meant To Live". Featuring a heart-wrenching storyline that dissects the complicated father/son relationship, the video is a visually stunning companion to Bellion's stirring new rendition of the song.
Speaking about the video, Switchfoot's Jon Foreman noted: "A few months ago, the band and I sat down in the studio to listen to the final mix of the song, 'Meant to Live (Jon Bellion Version)'. When the strings faded out, we sat in silence, stunned by how moving the piece of music was. A few days later, Bellion and I were texting about the song -how it conjured images in our minds, begging to be used in a trailer for a great movie. We came to the conclusion: 'why not do it ourselves, spend our own money to make a music video that felt like it conveyed the emotion we felt.' We called James Winterhalter and Joseph Larkin (the makers of the video) to see if they could pull off a short film on a shoestring budget in only a couple of weeks. They said 'let's go'! So that's what this music video is: a self-funded passion project. A short film about a man, caught between his past and his future, discovering that he still gets to choose. "We want more than the wars of our fathers... Somewhere we live inside." 'The Beautiful Letdown's underdog success exemplifies Switchfoot's iconoclast, grassroots approach to music-making, and the breadth of talent on display here showcases the timeless and inspirational qualities that their music possesses. Assembled in honor of 'The Beautiful Letdown's 20th anniversary, these new recordings breathe new life into Switchfoot's classic compositions and reflect the profound influence that the San Diego-based rock group has had on generations of musicians and fans alike. Switchfoot's Jon Foreman says: "When Switchfoot first started, I thought maybe someone else would show up to be the singer. A true frontman who could fill the stage, command an audience, and sing these songs we were writing. But no one ever showed up. It became evident that if I wanted these songs to be heard, I was gonna have to sing them myself. Even now, I don't really think of myself as a frontman. (Or even a singer really!) Then and now, I think of myself as a songwriter- and back then I kinda hoped someone would show up to lead us, but nobody appeared. Until this project... when some of my favorite voices on the planet showed up to sing our songs! A dream come true, indeed! This album is truly the highest honor: to hear our friends and heroes singing these songs of ours. Such legendary voices. Such amazing talent! It's truly a wonderful, strange gift. Thanks to all the artists and everyone involved!" |
