Robert Downey, Jr. Uncertain as to the Fate of the "Iron Man" Series
America loves and lives for superhero films. One favorite in particular is "Iron Man," made famous by Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark. When asked about the future of this particular superhero film franchise, Marvel seems confident that it will be as popular and malleable as the "James Bond" saga.
However, will "Iron Man" follow in the footsteps of "Bond," featuring a new title character every few films? The answer lies with Downey, and also with Marvel, who may reveal some clues when they release their information on movies slated to be produced from now until 2019.
While filming "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Downey was asked pointedly if he planned to star in a fourth "Iron Man" film. Downey's answer was a bit coy, but seemed to lean towards a "yes." "It's down to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that's on us to agree or disagree," Downey said. "When things are going great, there's a lot of agreement."
Marvel seems to strike gold with each superhero movie, given that each sequel does even better than its predecessors. Downey had this to say about the newest "Avengers" film that he is currently working on: "This has been a really good one and it feels good and we're having a good time."
One can't go wrong with Downey in a movie production, either. He was the highest-paid actor in the world according to Forbes, and earned over $75 million in the past year alone.
So will he or won't he put the belt back on? Downey's final remarks remained a little cryptic, but still optimistic. "It's that thing of: Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed? Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out. The future is, as usual, uncertain."
