Microsoft is Now Removing "Nokia", Rebranding for Simpler Branding and Clearer Entities, Lumia 730 and 830 - the Last "Nokia" Devices of Microsoft
As also reported in one of the earlier articles, the rumor surrounding Microsoft removing the "Nokia" name is now officially confirmed. The earlier article stated that Microsoft may start removing the name "Nokia" from their newer Lumia devices, as Nokia was already bought by Microsoft for $7 billion in April this year. Now, the Facebook account of Nokia France will soon be called "Microsoft Lumia", as announced through their recent post on the said Facebook page. The post was also linked to Nokia France's Twitter account, and Microsoft already confirmed that the name change will later follow in other countries.
Yet, the Nokia name was still used in the recently launched devices, such as the Lumia 730 and 830. These devices still have the name "Nokia" on their front bezel, and these might be the last ones to bring the "Nokia" name.
The announcement doesn't come as a surprise, since aside from the obvious buyout, the name "Nokia" has been slowly removed from Microsoft's Windows Phone Store apps in the recent months, including Treasure Tag and App Social. Microsoft has also been redirecting some of the Nokia page viewers to Microsoft.com.
Also, Microsoft has been trying to simplify their branding strategy, such as the naming of "Windows Phone" to simply "Windows" in their advertising. Removing the "Nokia" name is likely a part of their branding strategy. Also, since Nokia's mapping, networking and licensing businesses will continue to operate independently, the rebranding will also clear up some confusion relative to Nokia and Microsoft's separate entities.
