Christian Music Artists Remember the Late Mandisa
The music community is mourning the loss of beloved artist, Mandisa. The GMA Dove Award and GRAMMY® Award-winning artist passed away Thursday, April 18th, 2024 in her home in Nashville. She was 47. The cause of death is not yet known.
Her social media account confirms: "We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased. At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.
"Mandisa was a voice of encouragement and truth to people facing life's challenges all around the world. She wrote this song for a dear friend who had passed in 2017."
Michael W. Smith:
I had the privilege of sharing the stage with Mandisa several times. She will always be THE voice of the song, Christmas Day, and I won't ever be able to perform that song without thinking of her.
Mandisa was an overcomer. Her heart and spirit changed people for the better. I am so happy to KNOW that I will see her again. While we mourn, she worships in the presence of Jesus tonight.
We lift up her family and all of those closest to her. So very thankful that God let us share space with her!
Matt Maher:
Sitting here with my wife just telling stories of all the times our lives intersected with Mandisa, simultaneously grateful and heartbroken. She was such a gift to so many. We toured together and also had some very real conversations about life, family, suffering, and God's promise in the midst of it all.
This has been a tough week for a lot of people in Christian music; the closer you get to Heaven, the heavier the gravity of this world seems to weigh. But grace opens your eyes to the reminder that the great cloud of witnesses is full of people you know. Those in the unfiltered sight of Jesus bear no more suffering, no more pain. This takes some of the weight off the present moment.
Rest well, Mandisa; may you laugh and sing LOUD at the wedding feast in Heaven.
Micah Tyler:
Back in 2017, "Never Been A Moment" started playing on Christian Radio. I was nervous/excited/scared stepping out into the CCM world because I didn't really know any other artists and I didn't live in Nashville to make friends. @mandisaofficial was the first artist to send me a private message because she loved the song and just wanted to encourage me. That's it. She just wanted to be kind. I have never met another artist that champions and cheers on other artists like she always did. Just heartbroken. Her kindness and her love for Jesus were such a bright light to any room she walked into. Praying hard for her friends and family.
Don Moen:
The news of Mandisa's passing this morning was truly a shock. Not only was she a powerhouse of a talent but she also possessed a genuinely kind spirit. We ministered together several times, she sang background vocals on my album 'Thank You Lord' and joined me on several tours.
On one particular tour, notes kept appearing in everyone's bunk on the bus or in their instrument cases. These were encouraging messages like: "You are blessed and highly favored," or "You're such a blessing on this tour." Only at the end of the tour did we discover it had been Mandisa.
Whether behind the scenes or center stage, her presence always brought joy and hope.
Gloria Gaynor:
I only met Mandisa once, very briefly, yet the news of her passing brought me to tears. Such a talented and blessed artist, who obviously loved the Lord, is a deeply felt loss to so many. My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to her family, friends, fans and the entire Christian community who are blessed and will continue to be blessed by her music even as we mourn her passing. I pray the Lord grant her family and close friends peace that passes all understanding as they think of her singing with the heavenly choir.
Britt Nicole:
I love you Disa!! You were a bright light, and a beautiful friend. If we were together, we were dancing, laughing, and coming up with funny ideas...like to build a pyramid on stage in the middle of the show! We were always having fun!! But, I also knew you deeply cared for me and everyone in your life. You would send encouraging videos if you heard my music in stores, you would text me scriptures and prayers, and when you asked me how I was doing, I knew you really wanted to know. I love you my friend. You will be so missed by everyone. You made a difference in thousands of lives! There's no one like you, not another Disa! Thank you for being you. One of my favorite tours was hits deep, when we all shared a dressing room, we became family. I'm just so grateful that I got to know you. I'll miss dancing and laughing with you. My heart is sad today, but I know you are smiling.
Jeremy Camp:
I'm completely at a loss of words today. My heart is broken over the passing of Mandisa. She was a friend to many and poured her heart into those she walked life with. You will be greatly missed. Thank you for loving so well.
CeCe Winans:
You will be greatly missed! I love you.
