"O Come, All Ye Faithful" is a Christmas carol that dates back to the 18th century. The original Latin text of the carol, "Adeste Fideles," is attributed to John Francis Wade, an English hymnist. The earliest known manuscript of the song dates to around 1751. However, some sources suggest that the song might have been written earlier, possibly in the 17th century.
The English translation of "Adeste Fideles" that is commonly sung today was done by Frederick Oakeley in the mid-19th century. The melody is often attributed to John Reading, an English composer, but its exact origins are not definitively known.
"O Come, All Ye Faithful" has become one of the most popular Christmas carols worldwide and is sung in many different languages. Its uplifting melody and message of joyous celebration have made it a staple of Christmas celebrations in churches and communities around the globe.
