Dante Bowe on Billboard Music Award Nominations: "I Wrote These Songs When I Didn't Have Money"

Maverick City Music, of which Dante Bowe is part of, has received three nominations for 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA). BBMA finalists are determined based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay and social engagement, as tracked by Billboard, the go-to chart guide for music since 1940.This year's finalists are based on the chart period between March 21, 2020 and April 3, 2021.
Maverick City Music receives three nominations with a nomination for Top Gospel Artist and two more nods for Top Gospel Album for Maverick City Vol 3, Part One and Part Two. Bowe, who is a worship leader and songwriter for Maverick City Music, is grateful for the nominations. He shares, "Thank you @billboard."
However, these songs were written at a time in Bowe's life when he was still a struggling musican. "I wrote a lot of these songs when I didn't have enough money to pay my bills each month. I was staying in a small trailer home that was paid for by my Pastor at the time. (the amazing @clark_donnie).
I didn't write songs in hopes that they'd be famous one day. TBH I just wrote songs that I wanted to sing, straight from me to Him. @maverickcitymusic put me in the room with other people that burned for the same thing. DIFFERENT backgrounds, DIFFERENT cultures and DIFFERENT nationalities. But the SAME heart and SAME God. I'm grateful. Can't believe I get to do this with these people, just grateful."
Hosted by Nick Jonas, the 2021 Billboard Music Awards will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 23 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC.
Bowe was a co-writer on the platinum-selling track "In Spite of Me [feat. Ciara]" for Tasha Cobbs Leonard and Maverick City Music's biggest hit to date, "Promises." Bowe has recently released his own solo debut album circles.
