Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes and Elevation Worship's "The Blessing: Live" is the Highest Debut Song in over 4 Years
Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes and Elevation Worship's new worship track "The Blessing: Live" is the highest debut song in the history of Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart in over four years. The song skyrocket into the chart at No. 3 with 12,000 downloads sold in the week ending March 26 and 1.3 million US streams.
Jobe and Carnes wrote the song with Elevation Worship's Steven Furtick and Chris Brown on Feb. 27 and the acts recorded it at the Elevation Ballantyne campus in Charlotte, North Carolina, on March 1.
"We had no idea that the timing of this song would fall at such an incredibly sensitive time for our globe," Jobe tells Billboard, referencing the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
"People are in great need of being reminded of the promises in the word of God. I'm so thankful that His promises are promises of peace and strength. He says that in this world we will have trouble, but to take heart because He's overcome it. He's always with us, in every season. He's a good God who loves to protect and bless His people. We pray this song will bring great peace in the midst of uncertainty and sickness."
The song drew further mainstream exposure when Selena Gomez covered it, with friends Anna and Liz Golden, and posted their performance on Instagram, where it has been viewed 7 million times.
