Gloria Gaynor Wins Second Grammy 40 Years After Her First

Gloria Gaynor collected her second her GRAMMY® Award last Sunday night. Accepting the award for best roots/gospel album, Gaynor noted that it has been 40 years since she won her last Grammy. She won her first Grammy in 1980 for the dance floor anthem "I Will Survive" in the best disco recording category. It was the first and last time the Grammys would offer the category.
On Sunday night, Gaynor received a Best Roots Gospel Album GRAMMY for Testimony, her powerful new gospel album. Gloria was also nominated for Best Gospel Performance/Song for "Talkin' 'Bout Jesus," a stirring gospel track featuring Yolanda Adams.
"I want to first thank my lord and savior, Christ, Jesus, for the gifts, talents and abilities that I've been given with which to make the strides that I've made in my life and my career and to bring forth some music that tells of the mercy, the grace, the love, the faithfulness, the availability of God," Gaynor said in her acceptance speech.
"While sitting there, I was thinking to myself, we all think from time to time and say, 'Oh, that dress is to die for. That song is to die for. This is to die for.' Well, I can't tell you how blessed I feel to know that he thought I was to die for. He thought you were to die for. Think about that.
Since its release last summer, Testimony has been drawing praise for its collection of original inspirational songs and soulful hymns-from Gaynor's powerful take on "Amazing Grace" to "Man of Peace," her cover of the Bob Dylan classic. Recorded in Nashville's iconic former RCA Studio A and released by Gaither Music, the album features a sensational lineup of talent alongside Gaynor, including special guests Jason Crabb, Mike Farris, and Bart Millard (MercyMe), as well as backup vocals from Latrese Bush, Melinda Doolittle, Jason Eskridge, and Emoni Wilkins.
"I am ecstatic and truly grateful to God for gifts and favor, to the Academy for this recognition and honor and to the Gaithers, Primary Wave and 'Team Gaynor' for their love, support, and expertise," said Gaynor.
"We are honored to represent this gospel release from Gloria," stated Paul Sizelove, president of the label. "Not only did she make a stellar recording, she created a work of art that celebrates her journey of faith. It has been a joy to partner with her and her team to share these songs with the world."
Testimony, released in June 2019, reached No. 4 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.
