Kelontae Gavin Debuts in Billboard Top 25 with "Higher"

Summerville High School senior Kelontae Gavin is savoring the sweet taste of success as his new digital single bundle "Higher" (Marquis Boone Enterprises, LLC /Tyscot Records, LLC) debuts at No. 23 on Billboard Magazine's Top Singles chart alongside music legends such as Kanye West, Alicia Keys and the cast of the Fox Television musical drama series "Empire."
Grammy® Award winner Myron Butler produced the inspiring, mid-tempo tune "Higher" that was written by Gavin's mother, Priscilla F. Smalls. The single features four versions of "Higher" and a fresh rendition of the hymn "I Won't Complain" - the song that catapulted the 17 year old to social media stardom three years ago when a cafeteria posted to YouTube a video of him singing it during lunchtime. That same video now has nearly 800,000 YouTube views and has laid the foundation for Gavin's singing career.
Gavin is still surprised about his sudden notoriety that has garnered him fans from across the globe. "I'm talking about white, black, purple, Chinese," Gavin recently told The Summerville Journal Scene newspaper. "It makes me feel like, 'Wow, who am I?' I go outside and do some cartwheels...I'm just human, too." Gavin hopes to release his first album n late 2017.
