Sunday Best's Ashford Sanders Chats with Hallels About His New Music
Sunday Best Season Five Fan Favorite Ashford Sanders makes an indelible impression with the release of a maxi single appropriately named My Sunday Best, featuring 2 songs that he popularized while on the hit BET gospel music competition, available now on all digital platforms from Fountain of Life Records.
Sanders' personality comes shining through whether on stage or off and his penchant for "singing on the spot' carries for him its own reward. While visiting an IHOP restaurant in his hometown in the Spring, Sanders ran into some fans who asked him to sing while they waited for their meal. Of course, he obliged them and the whole restaurant joined in to sing along. The video from that impromptu performance went viral and to date has garnered over 8 million views.
The Canton, Mississippi native continues to tour across the country and alerts his fans to be on the lookout for his CD scheduled for an early 2016 release.
Hallels: Ashford, thanks so much for your time. Let's start with yourself, tell us a little about yourself and how you came to sing for our Lord.
Ive been in and around music most of my life. Since I was 5, I knew that I wanted to be gospel singer, so its pretty much a life long fulfillment of purpose. I've sang with choirs and groups and was greatly influenced by the music I heard from the Williams Brothers and The Canton Spirituals (the hometown groups from Mississippi). These early experiences helped to give me a good strong foundation
Hallels: How did you feel about your appearances and performances at Sunday Best?
Sunday Best was a wonderful opportunity. It taught me persistence and perseverance, I tried out a couple times and didn't make it, and just about the time I was ready to give up, I got the chance, it also taught me patience, after I made it and things were going good, I was eliminated. Now if you ask me, I will tell you that I think (like most people) I should have been the winner (smile). It just goes to show you that God has a plan for our lives, and many times those plans don't follow a straight line, its in those times that you need to know what God's word says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding, acknowledge HIM in all your ways, and He will show you what path to take. Sunday Best allowed me a chance to present to a bigger audience, and I am fully convinced there is a greater work ahead.
Hallels: You have also recorded "My Sunday Best," which you did performed at the show. For readers who have not heard the song yet, tell us what's the song about?
There was a couple songs that I did on the show that kinda became signature songs for me and whenever I'm in concert, people like to hear them, so I decided to put my spin on Millions and Make Me Better. People have been asking for them, so now they are available on Itunes and Amazon.
Hallels: I believe you are currently working on your album. Who are you working with on this record? Did you write any of the songs on the record?
I was blessed to work with Pharis Evans, Jr. who is the mastermind behind my solo project debut. He wrote some songs and I wrote some songs. Pharis wrote the first single Because You've Been Good, which is one of my personal favorites. The CD has something for everybody, so I know people will love it. Look for the CD in the spring of 2016
Hallels: For our readers who would like to know more about you and your music, where can they go?
I'm all over social media, just look for Ashford Sanders on fb, twitter, periscope and instagram.
